This policy explains what information History Streak ("we", "us") collects when you use historystreak.com, and how it's used.
What we collect
- A random device ID, stored in your browser's local storage. It keeps one daily attempt per device and shows your result when you come back. It isn't linked to your name, email address or any other account.
- Your nickname, which is randomly generated unless you change it, and is shown on the public leaderboard. Please don't use your real name or other personal information as a nickname.
- Game results: the puzzle number, how far you got, how long you took and when you played.
- Technical information: like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
We don't ask for your name, email address or payment details to play.
How we use it
- To run the game, the daily attempt limit and the leaderboard
- To prevent cheating and abuse
- To fix problems and understand, in aggregate, how the game is used
- To show advertising that keeps the game free
Service providers
- Cloudflare — hosting, security and cookie-free Web Analytics
- Supabase — the database that stores game results
- Google — advertising (Google AdSense), when ads are shown
Advertising and cookies
We use or may use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Where required by law, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you'll be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.
How long we keep information
Game results are kept to power leaderboards and archive statistics. Server logs are kept only briefly by our hosting provider.
Your choices
- Clearing your browser's site data resets your device ID and nickname.
- To ask us to delete your game results, email admin@historystreak.com with your nickname and the puzzle numbers you played.
Children
History Streak is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
